Does my horse need massage?

Maintenance massages are recommended to keep your horse in tip top condition throughout their lives. Massage helps the horse to feel good and achieve their peak performance.

However, I am often called when an owner notices a problem. If you’ve noticed any of the following it may be time to check in with an equine massage therapist:

  • Have you noticed that your horse is not performing as well as they have done in the past?

  • Has your horse started showing signs of discomfort? This could include bucking, rearing, napping or bolting.

  • Is your horse reluctant to be caught or unwilling to be tacked up?

All of the above may be signs that your horse has tightness in their muscles and is therefore experiencing pain and discomfort. They may also appear lame as they try and compensate for the pain - avoiding the use of the muscles that are sore.

What are the benefits of equine massage?

Did you know that massage therapy can benefit your horse in the following ways:

  • Increases blood flow to the muscles

  • Releases natural pain-relieving endorphins

  • Enhances muscle tone

  • Improves circulation

  • Reduces inflammation

  • Improves joint mobility

  • Promotes healing

  • Increases range of motion
